04:11 PM EDT, 09/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA ) and Walgreens agreed to pay $106.8 million to settle alleged violations of the False Claims Act and state statutes, the Office of Public Affairs of the US Department of Justice said Friday.

The government alleges that, between 2009 and 2020, Walgreens submitted false claims for payment to Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health care programs for prescriptions that it processed but that were never picked up by beneficiaries.

Walgreens did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of Walgreens were up 4.2% in recent trading.
