04:37 PM EDT, 06/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walmart ( WMT ) is expecting its ecommerce business in the US to start turning a profit within the next year or two, the retailer's top executives said during an investor relations Q&A session with analysts on Friday.
Sam's Club ecommerce business already is in the black, while the online portion of its larger Walmart ( WMT ) business also is nearing profitability, chief financial officer John David Rainey said during remarks at Walmart's ( WMT ) annual shareholders meeting.
There's also a convergence underway between many parts of the company's business, Rainey said, adding it will likely become increasingly difficult to distinguish its ecommerce and brick-and-mortar operations as well as other portions of the business.
"We want to be where the customer is," a company executive said. "If they want to come into the store, we'll be ready. If they want to pick up at the curb, we'll be ready and if they want delivery, we'll be ready there too."
