Walmart to Pay $1.64 Million to Settle Charges of Inaccurate Unit Pricing of Groceries
Jun 18, 2024 3:07 PM

05:42 PM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walmart ( WMT ) agreed to pay $1.64 million in civil penalties and other charges to resolve allegations by New Jersey Attorney General and other state agencies for using inaccurate unit pricing for groceries sold at 64 stores, state officials said late Tuesday.

The settlement includes a $1.61 million civil penalty, one of the largest ever levied by the New Jersey's Office of Weights and Measures, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a statement. State law in New Jersey requires grocery stores to display standard units of measurement such as pounds, quarts or per-count numbers so consumers can make better-informed purchases.

Walmart ( WMT ) did not immediately respond to a message by MT Newswires seeking comments.
