Walt Disney Performers at Southern California Disneyland Resort Vote to Unionize
May 20, 2024 4:19 AM

06:53 AM EDT, 05/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney ( DIS ) employees working as cast members, characters, and dancers at its southern California Disneyland resort voted to unionize as part of the Actors' Equity Association, the trade syndicate on Saturday cited the National Labor Relations Board as saying.

About 79% of the roughly 1,700 performers in Disney ( DIS ) parades and shows at the company's first theme park voted in favor of unionizing, said Actors' Equity, which already represents performers at the company's Florida park and in Disney's ( DIS ) New York-based theatrical performances.

The National Labor Relations will certify the results within a week if no challenge emerges. Afterward, Actors' Equity President Kate Shindle said the company would collaborate with workers to develop ideas to improve health, safety, wages, benefits, and job security before launching contract negotiations with Disney ( DIS ).
