07:21 AM EDT, 08/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney ( DIS ) is planning to expand attractions at its theme parks over the next decade, including increasing its cruise ship fleet, the entertainment giant said on its parks website Sunday.
Disney's ( DIS ) Magic Kingdom in Florida will get a new villains-themed area featuring two major rides, along with new lands inspired by Pixar's "Cars" and "Monsters, Inc." movie franchises, the company said. Construction for the new lands is expected next year.
According to the company, there will also be two attractions for the new Tropical Americas expansion, set to open in 2027 at the Animal Kingdom park in Florida.
The Avengers Campus at the Disney California Adventure Park in California will have two new attractions, Disney ( DIS ) said. California Adventure will also add a new "Avatar" experience, based on the second film in the movie franchise "Avatar: The Way of Water," the company added.
Disney ( DIS ) said it is also adding four new ships to its cruise fleet, which currently has five cruise ships in operation. The new ships are expected to begin operating between 2027 and 2031.
