Walt Disney to Pay $10 Million Over Alleged Child Online Privacy Violations
Sep 2, 2025 12:53 PM

03:43 PM EDT, 09/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney ( DIS ) will pay $10 million to settle Federal Trade Commission's allegations that the media company violated the privacy of children online, the US trade watchdog said Tuesday.

The FTC alleged Disney ( DIS ) allowed the collection of personal data of children, who watched kid-directed videos on YouTube, without cautioning parents or seeking their consent as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule, or COPPA.

According to the claims, the company failed to label its YouTube videos as children's content, which hampered age-appropriate distinction and enabled the children to be targeted by online advertisements.

"Our order penalizes Disney's ( DIS ) abuse of parents' trust, and, through a mandated video-review program, makes room for the future of protecting kids online-age assurance technology," said FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson.

Disney ( DIS ) did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
