12:57 PM EST, 01/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Cutting Edge Group said Friday they have formed a joint venture to co-own and manage Warner's huge catalog of film and TV music.

Warner Bros. will retain creative and operational control of the music rights while Cutting Edge, following its investment in the business, will jointly manage the venture, the companies said.

The JV is "one of the largest music rights deals ever transacted and spans almost 100 years of copyrights," the companies said, adding that the venture will focus on maximizing the distribution and revenue potential of the music.

The portfolio includes more than 400,000 compositions and song cues, including music from the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" franchises, as well as TV shows such as "Friends" and "Game of Thrones," the companies said.

Financial terms of the venture were not disclosed.
