08:48 AM EDT, 06/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- WEC Energy ( WEC ) said Wednesday that it plans to extend the operating lives of units 7 and 8 at the Oak Creek Power Plant in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and expects to have the units available to meet higher energy demand periods through the end of 2026.
The company said that the Wisconsin plant units, built in the 1960s and scheduled to retire at the end of this year, will continue to operate because of tightened energy supply requirements in the Midwest.
The units have a total capacity of 610 megawatts, the company said.
The extension is not expected to delay the company's pipeline of 6,300 megawatts of natural gas, wind, and solar projects, it said.
Shares were 1.2% lower in recent premarket activity.
