With the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions being lifted and the holiday season nearing, occupancy levels at hotels has been slowly inching up. Amit Jaiswal, CFO at Royal Orchid said that the overall occupancy was at 40 percent in October and 50 percent in November.

“December is also looking good. Around 55 percent occupancy we are able to touch. Some of hotels like Goa, Mysore, etc. are doing pretty well. Goa is doing occupancy of around 80 percent,” Jaiswal said in an interview to CNBC-TV18.

Vishal Kamat, Director at Kamat Group pointed that occupancy levels have increased across leisure hotels but business hotels are yet to show improvement.

“The trend has been mixed between leisure and business hotels. Business hotels there hasn’t been any major movement in terms of the occupancy. But when we talk of leisure like our Konkan resorts or our Goa resorts, those have shown very good movement upwards,” Kamat told CNBC-TV18.

Jaiswal said that wedding ceremonies are a big driver of revenue this season.

“This year weddings have given very good revenue to the F&B division. Be it Jaipur, Goa, Bangalore, all the locations weddings have moved to hotels because of the SOPs and the facilities what we have been able to give to the guests.”
