Wells Fargo Banker Reportedly Allowed to Return to US Following Removal of China Exit Ban
Sep 17, 2025 6:31 AM

06:45 AM EDT, 09/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- A Wells Fargo ( WFC ) banker who had been prohibited from leaving China has been granted permission to return to the US following negotiations between the countries, multiple news outlets reported Wednesday, citing sources who weren't identified.

The banker, Chenyue Mao, has already left China, according to Reuters.

Mao's release was secured following a deal between the US and China to switch TikTok to US-controlled ownership, but it's unclear if the subject of the banker's release was a part of the same talks, Reuters said.

Mao was barred from leaving China due to her alleged involvement in a criminal case, the report said.

Wells Fargo ( WFC ) and the US Embassy in Beijing did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
