11:33 AM EDT, 05/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Western Resources ( WTRNF ) on Tuesday said its Western Potash unit temporarily suspended operations at its Milestone Phase 1 Project site in Saskatchewan so that the company can focus its efforts on discussions for additional project financing.

The potash project is 93% complete in the existing plan, with construction of a processing plant finished and most equipment dry commissioned, the company said.

Western Potash chief executive Bill Xue said "It's unfortunate that the project's startup has been further delayed but we believe that this suspension is necessary, prudent and in the best interests of the company and Western Potash Corp. We remain committed to completing this exciting project, which is nearing initial production stage".

Western Resources ( WTRNF ) shares were last seen down C$0.005 to C$0.095 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
