12:12 PM EDT, 04/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- WEX (WEX) said Thursday that it filed a federal lawsuit against HP Inc. ( HPQ ) and Hewlett-Packard Development, alleging the companies infringed its trademarks with the launch a new platform called WEX.
"HP's use of the WEX name will inevitably sow confusion in the marketplace," said WEX Vice President Jessica Roy. Apart from similar offerings in software, fleet and data management, and employee solutions, Roy noted that the companies also have overlapping global footprints and said confusion between the platforms "is already beginning to materialize."
WEX said it is seeking a preliminary injunction to force HP to stop further infringement of the WEX trademark immediately. According to the company, it tried to resolve the matter "amicably" but HP refused to discontinue its use of the WEX name.
HP did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
