What's Going On With D-Wave Quantum Stock Today?
Feb 18, 2025 6:12 AM

D-Wave Quantum Inc. ( QBTS ) saw slight gains in premarket trading on Tuesday after announcing an application with Staque, an AI, blockchain, and quantum computing consultancy.

The two companies have developed a hybrid-quantum application designed to optimize the movements of autonomous agricultural vehicles on a large scale.

According to Benzinga Pro, QBTS stock has gained over 210% in the past year. Investors can gain exposure to the stock via Defiance Quantum ETF ( QTUM ) .

This development is expected to accelerate the adoption of autonomy in agriculture, allowing for real-time optimization of farming operations across thousands of fields.

The hybrid-quantum application represents one of the first real-world, customer-facing products powered by quantum computing for agriculture. As farming operations increasingly turn to autonomous vehicles, the ability to efficiently solve complex routing problems in dynamic environments has become a challenge for classical computers.

D-Wave’s hybrid quantum technologies have already demonstrated significant speed improvements over traditional methods, providing faster and more accurate solutions.

The application will be showcased at World Fira 2025, a major event for agricultural robotics, and at D-Wave’s own Qubits 2025 user conference.

Krishna Ganesh, COO of Staque, emphasized the need for faster solutions, as traditional computation methods often take days or weeks to generate results.

Quantum-optimized solutions, on the other hand, could transform agriculture by increasing crop yields, improving sustainability, and reducing costs, ultimately benefiting farmers and agricultural decision-makers.

D-Wave CEO Alan Baratz expressed confidence that quantum computing would play a crucial role in optimizing agriculture in the future.

“As farmers increasingly adopt autonomous agriculture machines to scale and increase the output of their fields, we believe quantum computing can provide the analysis, speed, and accuracy necessary to maximize production and minimize costs,” Baratz said.

Price Action: QBTS shares are trading higher by 0.78% to $6.42 premarket at last check Tuesday.
