Popular messaging app WhatsApp is the most downloaded app globally in Q1 2019 with more than 223 million new installs, according to a report released by Sensor Tower.

Worldwide Downloads

In terms of ranking, Facebook Messenger came in second with close to 209 million installs followed by TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and ShareIT. Interestingly, four out of five apps are owned by Facebook.

App Store Downloads

For iPhone and iPad users, the report said that TikTok was the most downloaded with 33 million installs in the first quarter. It has also become the most downloaded app on the App Store for its fifth consecutive quarter.

YouTube came second followed by Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The report said Twitter got the 16th spot with 11.7 million App Store downloads in Q1 2019, making this Twitter's highest total since Q1 2015.

Google Play Downloads

On Android, WhatsApp reigned with close to 199 million downloads from Google Play, as per the report. Facebook Messenger, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram came second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
