06:32 AM EDT, 08/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms' ( META ) WhatsApp said Wednesday on X that the Russian government is attempting to block more than 100 million people in Russia from accessing end-to-end encrypted communication on the platform.

The statement follows Russia's move this week to restrict some Telegram and WhatsApp calls, accusing the platforms of failing to share information with law enforcement in fraud and terrorism cases, multiple media outlets reported.

"We will keep doing all we can to make end-to-end encrypted communication available to people everywhere, including in Russia," WhatsApp said.

Reuters reported Thursday that WhatsApp text messaging and voice notes remain unaffected.
