Apr 24, 2024 1:43 PM

(Reuters) -Home appliance maker Whirlpool Corp ( WHR ) is cutting 1,000 salaried jobs globally, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The company aims to trim up to $400 million in costs this year, the report said, citing Chief Financial Officer Jim Peters.

Whirlpool did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the report.

The company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday it was committed to its workforce reduction plans and it expected to incur about $50 million of restructuring charges in the year.

Whirlpool had about 59,000 employees globally as of last year, according to its annual filing.

The company reported a 3.4% drop in first-quarter net sales to $4.49 billion.
