ASML Holding N.V. ( ASML ) shares are trading higher Wednesday following reports the Biden administration’s new rule on foreign chip equipment exports to China would exempt Japan, the Netherlands, and South Korea.

According to a report from Reuters, the Biden administration will unveil an extension of the Foreign Direct Product rule to prevent Chinese fabs from receiving exports from many countries. However, the new rule is expected to exclude Japan, the Netherlands and South Korea which would allow ASML ( ASML ) to remain unaffected by the planned export restrictions.

The broader semiconductor sector is up Wednesday after Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. ( AMD ) reported strong second-quarter results after Tuesday's closing bell. According to data from Benzinga Pro, ASML ( ASML ) shares are moving on heavy volume and trading below the stock’s 50-day moving average of $995.24.
