Analysts polled by FactSet expected $1.63.
Revenue in the three months ended June 30 rose to $915.4 million from $847.7 million a year earlier.
Analysts expected $886.1 million.
The company boosted fiscal year 2005 guidance to adjusted EPS of $6.50 to $6.75 on revenue of $3.45 billion to $3.525 billion from EPS of $5.95 to $6.25 on revenue of $3.375 billion to $3.5 billion.
Analysts expect EPS of $6.37 on revenue of $3.47 billion.
The company cut its adjusted full-year free cash flow guidance to $315 million to $350 million from $350 million to $400 million.
Shares of the company fell 9.8% in after-hours trading.
