John McAfee’s Widow Launches Meme Coin, Sparking Debate Over Token Distribution
Jan 23, 2025 8:57 AM

Janice Elizabeth McAfee, wife of the deceased tech entrepreneur and crypto proponent John McAfee, has launched a new artificial intelligence-themed meme coin, AIntivirus (AINTI), to honor the legacy of her dead husband. While some crypto community members have applauded the move, many have raised concerns about the token’s supply.

According to data from Solscan, the majority of the tokens have been moved to many wallets believed to belong to insiders on the project, indicating that it is likely focused on enriching members of the team behind the initiative.

The AIntivirus Meme Coin

Janice revealed in an X post that she had been looking for ways to honor her husband and build on the legacy he left behind after his sudden death. The two-time United States presidential candidate’s wife insisted that her deceased spouse would have loved this crypto cycle and that she was happy to have found a project that allows him to “participate posthumously.”

Interestingly, McAfee’s X account, which is still up and running despite his demise, is called AINTI, an AI version of himself.

The comment section of Janice’s post is full of community members dropping controversial takes on AIntivirus’s launch. Some are speculating about Janice’s account being hacked because she spelled honor as “honour” for the first time. Others are excited about the token and project and are looking forward to getting some bags for themselves.

However, analyses by on-chain experts have found issues with the token’s supply and distribution. A series of tweets by blockchain data platform Bubblemaps disclosed massive insider activity on AINTI. Bubblemaps found that the token deployer VirUs sent 90% of AIntivirus’s total 100 million supply to 287 addresses before the token was launched.

As soon as AINTI was released, 60 addresses emptied their wallets for $1.5 million. At the time of writing, other wallets held 71% of the supply. This transfer of coins before launch suggests that the addresses belong to the team behind the project.

McAfee’s Legacy and Story

McAfee was known for his contributions to cybersecurity. Through his company, McAfee Associates, he created and released several antivirus programs and was a popular crypto advocate until he was found dead in a Spanish prison cell in 2021.

In 2020, U.S. authorities charged McAfee with tax evasion and fraudulently promoting initial coin offerings. He was arrested in Spain that same year and was ready to be extradited to the U.S. before his death.
