Representatives from India and the United States are all set to meet in New Delhi on Thursday for the much awaited 2+2 dialogue between the two countries.
With just a day to go, the United States' Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is in Pakistan on Wednesday, has said that India buying a missile defence system from Russia and oil from Iran would be part of the 2+2 dialogue, but not the talks' primary focus.
The statement indicates that the US is looking at India as a key player in their strategic policy for the next 30-40 years.
India is expected to convey to the US during the dialogue that it is going ahead with the Rs 40,000 crore deal with Russia to procure a batch of S-400 Triumf air defence missile system.
But the US would like to see how much India can reduce its defence dependency on Russia and oil dependency on Iran. The US would like to focus on India's relationship with China in the days to come.
