4. India's Election Commission suffering from credibility crisis, say ex-bureaucrats in a letter to President Kovind
Ahead of general elections 2019, a group of former civil servants wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, alleging the "independence, fairness, impartiality and efficiency" of the Election Commission (EC) is being compromised.
In the letter dated April 8, 66 former civil servants asked the EC to “conduct itself in a manner where its independence, fairness, impartiality and efficiency are not questioned."

6. India reduces trade deficit with China by $10 billion in FY19
India's trade deficit with China fell by $10 billion to $53 billion in FY19 on the back of lower imports, officials told CNBC-TV18. The downtick in the merchandise trade gap was also aided by new market opportunities arising out of the US-China trade war in the neighbouring nation.
