Bimal Jalan bats for increase in govt spending to revive economy
Aug 19, 2019 11:38 AM

As the Indian economy is facing slowdown concerns, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Bimal Jalan has suggested an increase in government spending to re-energise the economy.

In an exclusive interaction with CNBC-TV18's Latha Venkatesh, Jalan also recommended that the government should come out with periodic reports of its spending and the results thereof.

"The most practical measure that we have to undertake is to use the resources that we have to increase investment and to implement the investment targets as early as possible. That is the first priority. The second priority is the ease of doing business; that means trying to resolve issues pertaining to so many permissions which are required for the private sector or the public sector to actually do something on the ground," he pointed out.
