Cabinet Committee on Security to meet later today
Feb 28, 2019 5:52 AM

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely on Thursday evening to take stock of the situation as tension escalated between India and Pakistan.

A Union Cabinet meeting is also slated for 6.30 pm. Both meetings are scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister's residence.

Sources said that the CCS at the 7, Lok Kalyan Marg will discuss steps to bring back an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, who was captured by Pakistan on Wednesday.

Islamabad had also issued a video on social media of an interview with Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, the pilot. India, however, was yet to confirm his name officially.

The tension between India and Pakistan escalated following the February 14 Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir by the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror outfit, which claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)troopers.

India carried out a "non-military pre-emptive attack" on the JeM's biggest terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot in a pre-dawn air strike on Tuesday that led to dogfights between the IAF and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday.

Fed's Goolsbee uneasy about rate cuts, says nothing wrong with dissenting
Nov 20, 2025
(Reuters) -Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee on Thursday said he is uneasy about cutting interest rates in the face of too-high inflation that's steady at best and by some measures getting worse, remarks that signal a reluctance to support a third straight reduction in borrowing costs next month. My unease is about the short-run front-loading of too many rate...

Fed's Paulson is 'cautiously' approaching December rate decision, she says
Nov 20, 2025
(Reuters) -Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Anna Paulson said on Thursday she is approaching the U.S. central bank's next meeting cautiously, despite supporting its last two interest rate cuts, as the threat of prolonged high inflation needs to be balanced with the risk of rising unemployment. On the margin, I'm still a little more worried about the labor market than I...
