More and more companies are deserting the Special Economic Zones, or SEZs and are heading elsewhere due to the “cumbersome documentation” and compliance requirements, The Hindu BusinessLine reported.

Some have also raised doubts over the secrecy in the information that is being shared with authorities regarding operations, vendors, sources of raw materials and human resource details, the report said citing a study by research firm CBRE.
Developers and occupiers get tax exemptions under the SEZ policy announced in 2000. However, the SEZ exemptions will end on March 31, 2020 and it is pulling units away from these zones.
