02:47 PM EDT, 09/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- State-level data from the BLS showed that the unemployment rate rose in six states and the District of Columbia in August, fell in only one state, Connecticut, and held steady elsewhere.
The largest gain was in South Carolina, where it increased by 0.4 percentage point. South Dakota had the lowest jobless rate in August at 2% while the District of Columbia had the highest at 5.7%.
The national unemployment rate was reported at 4.2% in August, down from 4.3% in July.
Payrolls rose in four states, with Texas and Indiana posting the largest increases. Nationwide nonfarm payrolls rose by 142,000 in August after an 89,000 gain in July.
The St. Louis Fed's GDP nowcast estimate for Q3 is for a 1.55% gain, revised down slightly from 1.57% in the previous estimate.
