Delhi may ban app-based cab operators from offering car pooling rides, says report
Sep 28, 2018 7:24 AM

Car-pooling services offered by app-based cab operators including Ola and Uber may soon be banned in Delhi National Capital Region, reported The Economic Times.

A meeting was held by senior officials from the Delhi government to deliberate, vet and finalise policies prepared by the transport department – City Taxi Scheme 2017, which is aimed to regulate app-based taxi aggregators, the report said.

It is legally not allowed for taxi services to pick and drop passengers at multiple points with an exception of public transport buses in the national capital, the report said, adding that no concrete decision has been taken on the ban at the meeting which was attended by public works department minister Satyendra Jain and transport minister Kailash Gahlot.

As per the proposed City Taxi Scheme 2017, it will also become mandatory for taxis to install GPS and a ‘panic’ button in the vehicles which will help track the cars by the transport department, the daily said.

The scheme will also put a cap on the number of taxis plying in the city and the maximum fare charged to the customers, it said.
