Demand for NREGS jobs doubles: Experts discuss key challenges

Demand for jobs under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has almost doubled as migrants leave India’s urban centers and return to their villages. States like Uttar Pradesh are reporting a whopping 300 percent jump in demand. New jobs are being created but the demand remains far too high.

CNBC-TV18’s Archana Shukla spoke to Reetika Khera, Associate Professor-Economics at IIT Delhi and Kamayani Swami, Founder Member of Jan Jagran Shakti Sangathan and discussed the key challenges on the ground and how far has MGNREGA been helpful for the migrants and the rural population to create jobs that are required.
