German carmaker Porsche has launched the face-lifted version of its SUV Macan in India. The SUV which sits below the flagship Cayenne has been launched with a price cut of almost Rs 10 lakh at Rs 69.98 lakh. The car will be available in two variants, one running a smaller 2-litre engine and one with a bigger 3-litre V6 offering more power and torque.
Pavan Shetty, director at Porsche India, has expressed confidence that premium vehicles will be relatively immune to the slowdown in the auto sector. The company will also be launching a fully electric sports sedan soon.
"A luxury brand like ours does not chase numbers. We are very careful about our cost and the margins. Macan would be a sizeable part of our entire portfolio. Globally it is the highest contributor to the volumes but in India, it is number two. Cayenne is number one for us as a product portfolio. Cayenne and Macan put together contribute close to around 62 percent of our volumes," Shetty said.
On Taycan he said, "Taycan is not an electric car for commuting. It is an electric car with a Porsche driving dynamics and this is what would help us stand out. We are definitely not bringing the car to India just to showcase our technical prowess. We will add two charging units to the customers - one at home and one at office, plus we are tying up with few public places where we will offer charging possibilities."
