With the new financial kicking in today, the e-way bills will be in effect from today.
Rohan Shah, a tax expert said the e-way bill will promote a robust tax compliance if all taxpayers are a part of the system. He, however, said that this move will affect the trade and commerce if the e-way bill system does not get adopted.
MS Mani, Deloitte chief, said that over 1.2 lakh e-ways bills were generated on the first day.
The e-way bill portal has 11 lakh registered users versus over the one crore users on the GSTN portal, Mani said. He reiterated that the strength of the Bill system will be tested in the third and fourth week of the month.
The invoice matching and the reverse charge mechanism should increase the GST collections, Mani said.
