A poll conducted by CNBC-TV18 showed that the IIP for February 2018 is expected to be between 5.9% and 7.8%.

IIP for the month of February rose to 127.7, from 119.2 in the corresponding period last year, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said. The sequential fall is seasonal, and is expected during this time of the year.

The cumulative growth for the 11-month period of April-February is at 4.3%.

Pointing to high auto sales for the year, the manufacturing sector saw some 'genuine' recovery, economists said.

"Fifteen out of 23 industry groups in the manufacturing sector have shown positive growth during the month of February 2018 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year," the report said.

The indices for manufacturing rose 8.7% to 130.1, electricity rose 4.5% to 136.1 and mining 0.3% to 110.2 in February 2018.

Positive numbers were shown by the manufacturing sectors for transport equipment, machinery and motor vehicles among others.

Capital goods and infrastructure and construction goods reported positive growth numbers at 20% and 12.6% respectively.

Consumer durables and consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 7.9% and 7.4% respectively.

Nikkei manufacturing PMI softened to 52.1 in February 2018 compared to 52.4 in January.

Tushar Arora, Senior Economist at HDFC Bank, said it comes out as they expected. "On IIP, a marginal slowdown was expected on all three items – mining, electricity and manufacturing," he said.
