Fuel prices rose for the ninth consecutive day in the four major metro cities - Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata - as they reached a fresh high on Monday.

The rise in the fuel prices are largely due to the increase in the cost of crude oil and high excise duty levied on transportation fuel in the country.
However, despite the rise in OPEC supply for crude and from the US, the global crude oil prices dipped on Monday.
With the rupee touching 71 last week, it has manipulated the prices to reach its peak. Since, India remains to be the second largest importer, a weak rupee has a major impact on the petrol and fuel prices.
Here are the petrol and diesel prices in the top four metro cities today
Mumbai: The petrol prices in the city rose by 31 paise to Rs 86.56 per litre on Monday while the diesel prices rose by 42 paise to Rs 75.12 per litre.
New Delhi: The petrol prices in the capital rose by 31 paise to Rs 79.15 while the diesel prices increased by 39 paise to Rs 71.15 per litre.
Kolkata: The petrol prices in the city rose by 30 paise to Rs 81.76 per litre while the diesel prices rose by 39 paise to Rs 74 per litre.
Chennai: The petrol prices in the city rose by 32 paise to Rs 82.24 per litre while the diesel prices rose by 42 paise to Rs 75.19 per litre.
