The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) income increased by 81.18% in the financial year 2016-17 while the Indian National Congress' (INC) income fell by 14%, Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) said in a report published on Tuesday.

BJP declared Rs 710.05 crore of expenditure, out of which it spent Rs 606.64 crore on election campaigns and general propaganda.
However, INC spent Rs. 96.30 crore more than its total income, which was reported to be at Rs 321.66 crore in FY 2016-17. It spent almost Rs 149.65 crore on elections in the financial year.
Donations and contributions were one of the major source of income for both the national parties, the report said.
However, BJP was submitted its audited report on February 8 2018, delayed by 99 days whereas INC's submission was delayed by 138 days on March 19, 2018. The deadline for the submission was on October 30 2017, for all the political parties.
An Overview of National Parties:
"It is observed that the 7 National Parties’ total income has increased by 51%, in other words by Rs 525.99 cr. The total income of the 7 National Parties increasing from Rs 1,033.18 cr during FY- 2015-16 to Rs 1,559.17 cr during FY- 2016-17," ADR said in its report.
