Government target Rs 1.10 lakh crore monthly average GST collections
Jun 4, 2018 6:34 AM

After collections from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in May dipped to Rs 94,016 crore, from the Rs 1.03 lakh crore collected in April, the government is now aiming to reach Rs 1.10 lakh crore in terms of monthly average collections.

To achieve this monthly average target, government is actively persuading non-fliers to file returns, said government official to CNBC-TV18.

Already, the government has issued an informal communication to 21 field formations, which are headed by chief commissioners.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Chairman Vanaja N Sarna, in a video conferencing last week has told all chief commissioners to start sending tax notices for recovery starting from non-filing to non-filers.

The apex body of indirect taxes will start matching their returns, wherever there is a discrepancy, will issue a notice. , get the people on the radar, so that more expansion in the tax base can be done.

Also, the revenue leakages can be stopped given the fact that the government has taken enough measures and time for the taxpayers to come on their own and be tax compliant.

Earlier, the government has taken similar drive in Bhubaneshwar zone in Odisha and about Rs 280 crore has been garnered from 10,000 tax notices that were sent to non-filers.

Similarly, more such tax notices across India will now be sent, where CBIC will keep a fortnightly check on it.
