In a bid to curb tax evasion and have a fair assessment of actual tax base, the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs (CBIC) has asked field formations to undertake an exercise to start canceling GST registration of non-filers and submit a daily status report till November 25.

According to senior government officials, the government will soon launch a series of measures to curb GST evasion.
"Falling revenue and declining percentage of return filers have become the biggest concern for the centre. Measures to balance the enforcement with trade facilitation and more measures will be discussed with officers on November 25," officials added.
Immediate measures include field formations to issue mass scale notices to non-filers of GSTR3B, non-filers to be identified on the basis of having failed to file returns for six or more return periods and notices to be sent under section 29 of CGST Act for cancellation.
"The revenue secretary on Nov 25 will review the position with all chief commissioners and commissioners of both Central and State GST in a daylong conference in New Delhi," one official said.
It is also expected that more tax notices will be sent out by the tax department.
"Government may issue mass scale notices to taxpayers who have not filed any returns till date," said a North Block official.
Some of the facilitating measures include establishing outsourced seva kendras in large numbers all across India.
"These outsourced seva kendras will help taxpayers in filing returns and making payments. Also, the centre aims to defer mandatory linking of e-way bill with RFID on National Highways from Dec 01, as Finance Ministry wants to watch the success of nationwide RFID launch at toll plazas before deciding on the new date.
The government will also defer the measure to not allow the generation of e-way bills by a taxpayer who hasn't filed GST returns for two months. This measure was to be launched from November 21," officials added.
