Govt to unveil strategy to turn districts into export hubs in Budget 2020
Dec 23, 2019 10:06 AM

In a bid to boost exports and push the ‘Make In India’ campaign, the government will unveil a strategy to turn districts into export hubs in the next budget. According to sources, the commerce and finance ministries are discussing the strategy for creating these hubs.

The discussions have three main aspects. Firstly, export facilitation will be pushed at the DGFT level, which means both DGFT and the district industrial centres will team up to push export facilitation at the district level.

Secondly, a lot of data is needed regarding exports, both of goods and services, and for that one has to ensure that IT systems like GSTN and ICEGATE will need to operate fully at the district level.

Thirdly, district wise export-related strategy will also be prepared. For example, there are districts where exporters could be proficient in exporting handicrafts or leather goods. In such cases export strategy for the district will be planned to achieve maximisation of such goods.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve did not have full consensus when it voted last week to reduce interest rates by half of a percentage point, with one policymaker dissenting and economic projections implying others were at least a bit reluctant to start the easing cycle with an outsized move. NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve's point man on bank oversight, Michael Barr, said on Thursday that banks should use the central bank's discount window whenever they need it, not just when they face funding challenges. We view using the discount window as a fully acceptable, normal part of any bank's funding needs if it makes sense for them...
