It's the 61st day of the farmers' protest against the three central farm laws. With no breakthrough despite 11 rounds of talks with the government, protesting farmers are gearing up for a tractor rally on the Republic Day, January 26.
Thousands of farmers from various states are driving tractors towards Delhi, with approximately 13,000 of them already at various points on Delhi border.
The farmers will be allowed to proceed with the tractor rally only after the Republic Day celebrations are over and that too on specific routes The Delhi Police has beefed up security arrangements to avoid any clash or untoward incident. Farmers have agreed to stick to the routes approved by the police. Delhi Police commissioner will also oversee the security preparations.
In Maharashtra, thousands of farmers from 21 districts have reached Mumbai's Azad Maidan to begin their three day sit-in protest in solidarity with ongoing protests in Delhi.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar also joined the protest. He said it was unfortunate that those in power do not care about farmers. He also asked why the government has not enquired about the farmers who have been protesting on the streets, braving cold weather.
