GST collection data gives confidence; I-T too showing signs of revival: Finance secretary
Jan 4, 2021 1:36 AM

The recent goods and services tax (GST) collection data gives the government confidence as it indicates a sign of revival, said finance secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey on Monday.

The GST revenue collections for December 2020 were recorded at an all-time high of Rs 1,15,174 crore.

"If compared with last year’s December figure because traditionally December is a low-tax month, the increase is more than 11.6 percent, close to 12 percent increase year-on-year that we have seen in the GST,” the finance secretary said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.

According to him, income-tax collections are also showing a sign of revival.

On the budget front, he said, “We have gone through a difficult situation (because of pandemic). We have seen signs of improvement and through various ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ packages, the government has tried to do everything possible to address the sectors which need assistance, stimulus or any other interventions and that approach will have to be continued.”
