GST collection slips below Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time since February

Goods and services tax (GST) collection for June stood at Rs 99,939 crore, it’s the first month since February 2019 that the figure has dropped below Rs 1 lakh crore.

Of the Rs 99,939 crore collected in June, central GST or CGST stood at Rs 18,366 crore, state GST or SGST came in at Rs 25,343 crore, integrated GST or IGST was Rs 47,772 crore (including Rs 21,980 crore collected on imports) and cess contributed Rs 8,457 crore (including Rs 876 crore collected on imports), data released by the government shows.

The total number of GSTR 3B returns filed for the month of May up to June 30 numbered 74.38 lakh.

“The government has settled Rs 18,169 crore to CGST and Rs 13,613 crore to SGST from IGST as regular settlement. The total revenue earned by the central government and the state governments after regular settlement in the month of June 2019 is Rs 36,535 crore for CGST and Rs 38,956 crore for the SGST,” a government release said.

It’s the first time since February 2019 that GST collection has dropped below Rs 100,000 crore. In February, the revenue stood at Rs Rs 97,247 crore.
