With just over a week to go for the Goods and Service Tax (GST) council meeting, no consensus among states on the proposal to cut tax rates on automobile, biscuits and other items.
The finance ministry along with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) is working on an incentive package for the leather sector. As part of a proposal which is under consideration, the government is likely to increase the entitlement rate for leather garment sector for duty-free import of raw material from 3 percent to 5 percent.
