The 18-year-old Hima Das created history by bagging a gold in World Junior Athletics Championships. She clinched the top spot in the 400 metre final at the world U20 championships in Tampere, Finland.
Hima who was trailing for most of the race, and overtook three rivals in the final 80 metres. She clocked 51.46 seconds to win the gold.
With this, Hima has become the first Indian to win a gold medal at a world track championship.
Hima, a farmer's daughter, hails from Dhing village in Assam's Nagaon district.
