Hurun released its global and India Rich List for 2021 on March 2, where it provided detailed information about India's billionaires, who have now grown to 177 in the year gone by. Here are some interesting facts about the superrich in India.

Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, retained the top spot for the 10th consecutive year on the Hurun India Rich List. The 63-year-old has a net worth of Rs 6,05,900 crore and is the eighth richest person on the planet.

Gautam Adani, who had a spectacular rise in fortunes in the last few years, saw his wealth almost double to $32 billion in 2020. He climbed 20 places on the global list to become the 48th richest person in the world and has emerged as second-wealthiest person in India.

Among those who saw their fortunes decline during the year of the pandemic is Acharya Balkrishna of Patanjali Ayurved. His networth declined to $3.6 billion, which is down 32 percent from 2019.

Overall, India is home to 177 billionaires, which makes it the third country in the world with the most billionaires behind China and the US.

Mumbai is home to 60 billionaires, followed by New Delhi (40) and Bengaluru (22).

An interesting point is that out of the 177 billionaires in India, 118 were classified as self-made.

At 34, Nikhil Kamath (above image) of Zerodha and Apoorva Mehta of Instacart are the youngest Indians on the list.

There were only 13 women on the top-100 India list with Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon emerging as the richest Indian women with a net worth of $4.8 billion

Another interesting fact was that the healthcare sector accounted for 37 billionaires with a cumulative wealth of $105 billion. While numerous sectors suffered due to the lockdown-induced economic troubles, healthcare remained an exception.
