India is set to purchase 18 bullet train sets from Japan at a total cost of about Rs 7,000 crore, The Economic Times reported.

The deal will likely include transfer of technology for local production, the report said citing an unnamed official.

The first bullet train in India, which is being built with Japan's assistance, is likely to run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad at the end of 2022.

“We’ll be getting 18 Shinkansen train sets from Japan,” an official told the paper, adding that every train will have 10 coaches and will be able to travel at the speed of 350 km per hour.
