While the monsoon has covered almost half the country, rainfall has been 37 percent below normal so far this month, the met department has said. Though this is better than last week's deficit of 44 percent, it's still not good news for a monsoon-dependent economy, experts say.
According to GP Sharma, President- Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet, monsoon definitely has picked up pace in the last 3-4 days. "The deficiency has dropped now from 44 percent to about 37 percent today. However it is going to go a little weak again after about 24 hours or so, though the deficiency is not going to mount as such. June might see 30-35 percent deficiency," he noted.
The rainfall may slow down tomorrow onwards. It is going to be confined mainly to Northeast India. "Again from July 1 or so, a fresh system is likely to be formed and that should give us more rain," Sharma added.
