Kerala floods: Here is how you can help the affected-people

Kerala continues to battle with a resurgent monsoon on Thursday, with cities and villages submerged by floodwaters. The state is facing worst floods n the history, 12 fresh deaths were reported on Thursday, taking the toll to 79, since August 8.

With the Meteorological department predicting heavy to very heavy rains across the state till August 18, a red alert has been issued in all 14 districts. More than 2 crore people have affected and around 1.5 lakh people have been lodged in relief camps across the state.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for help to rebuild the lives of people in the state. Those who wish to send essential services such as medicines, food grains, clothes can contact the emergency operations centre at the district Collectorates. The toll-free number is 1077.

People can donate money by using CM’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). The donations are exempted from income tax.

Vijayan, has urged people to contribute to the relief fund.

You can send money by cheque/DD or internet banking. Here are the details:

1. Contribution can be made directly by visiting donation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in.

Log on to the website, click on the donate menu and fill the Online Donation Form. Fill the basic details such as name, phone number and email.

It will then redirect you to a payment gateway where you can pay through net banking, credit cards and debit cards.

Once the transaction is successful, you will get a payment success notification on the display as well as on your email address. This includes a certificate from the principal secretary (finance) as well as a tax exemption certificate.

You can also contribute money by cheque/DD or internet banking.
