Seen a cemetery for fishes? Well, Kerala has opened the world’s first marine cemetery to raise awareness on the effects of single-use plastic, pollution and overfishing.
The gravestone is located at the Beypore beach, Kozhikode District. It is made of iron frames filled with more than 200 single-use plastic bottles. The tomb also carries photographs of endangered marine species.
The cemetery was inaugurated on December 4 and built by Jellyfish Watersports, Clean Beach Mission, Kozhikode's District Administration and Beypore Port department.
