The government on Monday released the list of top higher educational institutes in India. The fourth edition of the Indian rankings based on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 also includes some of the top the top medical institutes in India. The union HRD ministry prepared the list evaluating the institutions on five broad generic groups of parameters, including Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Here are the top 10 medical colleges in India:
AIIMS, New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has ranked as the best institute in the medical category in the NIRF 2019 rankings.
2. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER): Established in 1962, the college is located in Chandigarh. It offers a wide range of medical research and training facilities for its students. (stock image)
3. Christian Medical College: The college is located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1900. The college is a private, minority-run educational and research institute that includes a network of primary, secondary and tertiary care hospitals in and around the city.
4. Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences: Located in Lucknow, SGPGIMS is a medical Institute under State Legislature Act. It was established in 1983. (stock image)
5. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary research academia that is accredited 'A' by NAAC and is ranked as one of the best research institutions in India. It is spread across three southern Indian states — Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
6. Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University: The Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. It has three faculties -- Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Faculty of Ayurveda.
7. Kasturba Medical College: Kasturba Medical College (KMC is a medical college in Manipal, Karnataka. It was established by TMA Pai on June 30, 1953. The college was the first self-financing medical college in India.
8. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research: JIPMER is a central government funded institute with autonomy to run its internal administration. The college is located in Puducherry.
9. Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences: ILBS is a mono-superspeciality hospital for liver and biliary diseases located in New Delhi. It was set up by the government of India in 2009.
10. King George's Medical University: King George's Medical University, formerly known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and was established in 2002. (stock image)
