October Unemployment Rate Declines Largest in Delaware and Connecticut
Nov 20, 2024 7:27 PM

10:13 AM EST, 11/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- State-level data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Tuesday showed the unemployment rate fell in three states in October, rose in one, Iowa, and held steady elsewhere.

The largest unemployment rate declines were in Delaware and Connecticut, where it fell by 0.2 percentage point. South Dakota had the lowest rate at 1.9% while Nevada and the District of Columbia had the highest at 5.7%.

The national unemployment rate was reported at 4.1% in October, unchanged from September.

Nonfarm payrolls declined in two states and were little changed elsewhere. Nationwide nonfarm payrolls rose by only 12,000 in October after a 223,000 gain in September, due in large part to the impact of two hurricanes and a strike at Boeing.

The largest payrolls loss in absolute terms was in Florida, which lost 38,000 jobs, followed by Washington with 35,900.
