A day after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented Union Budget 2021 in the Parliament, the Opposition has stormed the Houses demanding a discussion on the three farm laws. As many as 16 opposition parties had boycotted the President's Address on the first day of the Budget Session in protest against the farm laws.
Thousands of farmers, mostly from Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting at several border points into Delhi since November-end, demanding the repeal of the three laws and a legal guarantee to the minimum support system (MSP) for their crops. Enacted last September, the three laws have been projected by the Centre as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove middlemen and allow farmers to sell their produce anywhere in the country.
