Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Tuesday, leading to chaos in the city with submerged roads and slow traffic movement.
Ravinder Bhakar, chief public relation officer, Western Railway, said that the trains on the western route were functioning from Churchgate upto Bandra and from Goregaon upto Virar while on Goregaon to Borivali route, the trains were limited.
On the harbor line, the traffic will resume by 2pm, said Bhakar, ensuring that the connectivity between Bandra and Goregaon will be restored soon.
“The up-down fast lines will be restored by 7pm and rest by midnight,” he said.
“The traffic has been suspended on all four lines between Andheri and Vile Parle,” he added.
When asked about the precautions taken by railways, he said, “Western railways does a safety audit of all the bridges, which are under our premises before monsoon.”
“However, this bridge comes under the jurisdiction of BMC, one has to find out about those details. Commissioner railway safety has been appointed to conduct an enquiry and once he finishes the investigation, the details will be shared,” he added
