On the 17th anniversary of 9/11 - more than 2000 American soldiers have lost their lives since the war began, more than 20,000 civilians have been killed in the last 10 years alone – are we any closer to peace and how critical is it for Afghanistan to stand on its feet economically? US Ambassador to Afghanistan, John Bass and Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of Afghanistan shared their views and outlook.
“We think we are making important progress, obviously there is work that remains but the work we are doing – not only in Afghanistan but here in Mumbai to support the development of Afghanistan’s economy and to reconnect it to the wider region is a key part of what we believe will lead to success for Afghanistan,” Bass said.
“Terrorism is a phenomena that the whole world is faced with and unfortunately Afghanistan happens to be in the frontline. Our people have suffered a lot especially in the recent months, we had a high number of casualties. To win against terrorism and to judge it on a daily basis, it makes it a little bit complicated to make that sort of a judgement,” said Abdullah.
